Upcoming Mass for All Affected by Addiction

10-24-2021Pastor's CornerRev. Robert J. Deehan, V.F.

On Sunday, October 10, our parish Knights of Columbus sponsored a Mass here at Holy Family Church for All Affected by Addiction, which invited folks to pray for and support individuals, family members and friends who are coping with the effects of various forms of addiction. It included a very moving witness talk by Brooke Fleming who shared how AA and dependence on God helped her face her alcohol addiction.

Following the 10:30 Mass, community representatives were available to offer helpful resources, insights and support, including one resource card, created by our Knights, entitled Friends Don’t Let Friends Die. It describes the steps that can be taken to help someone with an overdose, and reminds us that under Massachusetts Law, one cannot be prosecuted for drug use or possession if you obtain help for someone with an overdose.

Besides these wonderful initiatives, the Knights have generously offered countless hours of manpower in support of faith enrichment opportunities, and various projects and activities that have taken place here at Holy Family, often done “behind the scenes.” As a national as well as international fraternal and charitable organization, the Knights of Columbus get involved with various outreach, pro-life and pro-family causes beyond the parish. One example is their Annual Tootsie Roll Drive, which funds programs that help people with intellectual disabilities, focusing on children and Special Olympics. You’ll see some of our Knights wearing their distinctive yellow vests next weekend inviting your support. As a fraternal benefit society, the Knights of Columbus can also provide financial security to members and their families, while turning premiums into charitable impact.

If you a Catholic gentleman who is committed to your Catholic faith, and who would like to join a group of like-minded men who seek to serve their parish, the wider Church and community, contact Jay Monaghan, Membership Director of Holy Family’s Knights of Columbus at 781-424-7004. Members meet in our parish center on the third Wednesday of the month. More information can also be found at www.kofc.org or you can talk to a Knight next weekend. I remain ever grateful to the members of our parish Knights of Columbus for the many ways they contribute to the good works going on here at Holy Family. Please spread the word to someone you know who might want to join this great organization.
