Relevant Radio

Do you listen to the radio… maybe a podcast or app?  What’s your favorite one?  Have you tried Catholic radio?  There’s one station I enjoy listening to on their app getting ready in the morning.  It’s called Relevant Radio.  Having recently merged with Immaculate Heart radio, it’s presently the largest Catholic radio network in the country with stations and affiliates coast to coast.  The closest radio station in the area that carries Relevant Radio is WSJW (550 AM) out of Providence, RI, which I can get on my car radio, but is more accessible at home on the Relevant Radio app, available for free in your app store.  It’s faithfully Catholic, but not stuffy or heady.  It’s current, upbeat and informative, with interviews with lay people, priests and bishops from around the country, including call-in programs, discussions about topical issues of the day from a Catholic perspective, short saint of the day descriptions, Church headlines including quotes from the pope and bishops.  There’s an amusing program that features answers to people’s questions about the Catholic faith called, “Fr. Simon Says,” and another one by Catholic apologist, Patrick Madrid.  Other noted Catholic experts, lay and religious leaders appear on the programs throughout the day.  Opportunities to pray the Divine Office, the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Mass are also available.  Whether it’s live or a taped rebroadcast from their extensive library found either on-line ( or on the app, there’s a wide variety of programming you can download and take with you wherever you go.  It’s a great way to keep up with what’s going on in the Church, and also a wonderful way to deepen your understanding of the teachings and traditions of our Church.  Give it a try and I think you’ll get hooked.  My favorite program is “Morning Air,” which is broadcast daily from 6 – 9 am.

Whether you’re commuting to work, waiting to pick up the kids, or doing some work at home, it’s an informative, entertaining and uplifting alternative to a lot of other broadcasts available.  Why not make listening to Relevant Radio a New Year’s resolution to feed your mind with faith-based programming that will also lift your spirit and nourish your soul.  When you listen, let me know what your experience is, and freely share the good news about your enjoyment of Relevant Radio.  The more we immerse ourselves in positive, God-centered, Catholic material, the better formed in our faith we will be, and the better versed we will be in addressing matters about the Catholic faith that may come up in conversation.  Tune in… you’ll like it!  Oh, by the way, I was not compensated for this promotion. J  It comes truly from my own enjoyment and appreciation for this wonderful Catholic media resource.
