This Thursday, October 31, Most Reverend Richard G. Henning, STD will be installed as our new Archbishop of Boston. The Mass of Installation will take place at 2:00pm at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.
You are invited to view the installation on CatholicTV (via cable) or at www.CatholicTV.org. For those who wish to be together with others while viewing the installation, there will be a watch party for those living in the South Region of our Archdiocese at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Braintree.
In whatever way you decide to view this event, I encourage you to see the ceremony from the beginning as there will be some unique symbolic features representing Cardinal Sean O’Malley, our outgoing Archbishop “handing over the reins” to our new incoming Archbishop Richard Henning. One significant element of the ceremony will be when Archbishop-designate Henning is led to the cathedra (special chair) of the archbishop, which represents a bishop's authority. When Archbishop-designate Henning sits on the cathedra, he officially assumes his role as Archbishop of Boston, and the community gathered will be invited to respond with applause.
Please pray for our new Archbishop Henning as he begins his leadership of our Archdiocese. He comes with new vitality (as he is age 59) and offers many gifts to share as he carries on the wonderful leadership we have had for the last 21 years from Cardinal Sean. And, let us pray that Cardinal Sean may find refreshment and peace as he begins his retirement. He will now become Archbishop- emeritus and plans to live part-time in Boston and part-time in Washington, DC.
God bless you!
