A Navigation Tip From Fr. Bob

If you’ve been traveling this summer to a place you’ve never been before, you’ve probably had to use a smartphone app / GPS to provide you with directions on how to get to your destination. You listened to a voice on the device tell you where and when to turn. Not being familiar with the roads, you had to place your complete trust in the device… a little disconcerting especially if it was nighttime or the weather conditions were rather stormy. Yet, you got to where you were going because you followed the directions provided by the GPS.

Our faith life is a lot like that when we place our trust in Jesus, our spiritual GPS to help us navigate uncharted territory. We often travel on new roads amid darkness, storms, and uncertainty. We’re not sure what to do. Follow your spiritual GPS – follow Jesus! Ask Jesus in prayer, “What would you do, Jesus, in this situation?” He faced uncertainty, suffering, darkness, and death. What did Jesus do? He walked in complete trust that his Father would see him through, and special grace was made available to him so that he could navigate well the challenges life presented to him. It’s the same for us! Jesus has “been there.” And, he is our GPS that we can enable through prayer to guide us and strengthen us along our journey. So, the next time you use a GPS to get to your destination, let it be a reminder that you have a spiritual companion, Jesus, your personal GPS to help you navigate life’s twists and turns.

Blessings for smooth travels!
