Youth Ministry Update

03-20-2022Pastor's CornerMatthew Bensman, Youth Faith Formation Minister

Hi everyone, it’s Matt from the Youth Faith Formation Office doing a youth ministry takeover of the Pastor’s Corner this week. Our high school and middle school teens have been up to some amazing things over the last month that I wanted to share with you.

As you might remember, after all of the Masses on Superbowl weekend, teens were at the doors of the Church collecting money for our Souper Bowl of Caring campaign.

Thanks to your generosity, our teens collected $1,437. With that money, we purchased supplies to make lunches to help feed people living on the streets in our communities.

Over February vacation, teens came into the parish center and made bagged lunches throughout the week to be distributed around shelters in Brockton, Stoughton and Boston. In total, over 50 teens participated in the project and they made over 325 lunches that were dropped off daily during vacation to various shelters. We were also able to donate desperately needed diapers and wipes to a women and children’s shelter in Brockton.

Another group of teens had volunteered to distribute an additional 50 “kindness bags” outside of St. Francis House shelter in Boston, but that trip had to be postponed due to the storm on Feb 25th. We hope to deliver those remaining bags soon, bringing the total number of people served to almost 400!

Also, throughout the month of February, over 40 teens helped make blankets to be donated to local shelters and hospitals. Thanks to their hard work and your generous fleece donations, they were able to make 70 fleece blankets that were donated to Project Linus, which will be distributed to children and teens in area hospitals and shelters. On March 27th, 83 teens will receive the Holy Spirit in a real and powerful way through the sacrament of Confirmation. Please pray for them as they prepare for this momentous occasion on their journey of faith.

Our middle school youth group has had some exciting youth nights lately based around St. Valentine’s and St. Patrick’s Day. In April, we are taking our youth night on the road and having a Holy Family Youth Night at Sky Zone in Kingston on April 8th. All middle school and high school students are invited to join us for this fun night. If you have a teen that is interested in joining us, please email me and I will get you more information.

We have an amazing group of young people in this parish and I am so proud of them for all that they do at school, in the community and here at Holy Family. I am blessed to be a part of their journey and ask for your continued prayers for them as they grow in faith.

Blessing to you this Lenten season,
Matthew Bensman
