Faith Formation 2018-2019

Grades 1 and 2

We believe that preparing children for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist is a wonderful opportunity for families.  We believe that the early years of Faith Formation are formative for the whole family.  They provide a beautiful opportunity for the family to reflect on how God has been present in their lives and to encounter him in a meaningful way.  We try to meet families where they are and help each family move forward on their faith journey.

Grade 1 students will participate in two parent-child workshops throughout the year and be given at home materials in between.  Preparation for receiving Reconciliation in grade 2 involves three parent-child workshops in the Fall/Winter and reception of first Reconciliation in December.  Preparation for receiving Eucharist involves three parent-child workshops in the Winter/Spring and a few other events.  First Eucharist is celebrated in May.

The workshops will take the place of weekly classes for the students.  Each workshop features a mix of prayer, hands-on activities, and conversation, during which the parents and children are together some of the time and separated some of the time.  Each workshop is offered at multiple times and you are welcome to register for whichever session fits your schedule.  At least one parent is required to accompany the child to each workshop.  When you register for Faith Formation for grades 1 and 2 you will be contacted separately with the dates to sign up for workshops.

Grades 3-6

After spending grades 1 and 2 preparing the family for a child’s reception of Reconciliation and Eucharist, grade 3-6 children are placed in classes with their peers to continue their Faith Formation journey. Faith Formation for grade 3-6 is offered after the 9:00a.m. Family Liturgy.  Sunday classes begin at 10:15 and end at 11:15 a.m.   On Monday and Tuesday's grade 3-6 classes will be offered 4:15-5:15 p.m.    You can choose any of the three options.

Grades 7 and 8

Our 7th and 8th graders will be meeting together and following a two-year curriculum.  In Year One  the curriculum will be focused around the Mass through a new program from Ascension Press called Altaration.  Year two is focused around building relationship with Jesus through a mix of Holy Family created materials and the Youth Alpha Series.  At this grade level, students will be invited to choose a semester.  Students will have two options of sessions to choose from, one Fall option and one Spring option.  Sessions are on Tuesday evenings in the Fall and Monday Evenings in the Spring, 5:30-7:00PM.  You are asked to choose either Fall or Spring.  Please see above for the registration form and dates.   One parent is asked to attend the first session with their child.

Grades 9 and 10 (Confirmation 1 and 2)

. The curriculum begins in grade 9 and continues through grade 10.  It is a mix of speaker events, youth masses, service and a one-day retreat.  Class sessions are held on Sunday evenings (C1 5:00-6:30 p.m. and C2 6:45-8:15p.m.)
